New Frontier back in print - absolutely

DC Comics' website has the info on a new printing of The New Frontier. This is great news for Cooke fans and those who want a terrific story in a gorgeous package. Copies have been selling far above the cover price for months.
Here's the solicitation from DC:

Written by Darwyn Cooke; Art and Cover by Darwyn Cooke

Writer/illustrator Darwyn Cooke's award-winning, critically acclaimed masterpiece DC: THE NEW FRONTIER is back in a new printing of the Absolute edition, featuring new story pages, detailed annotations, alternate sequences and an extensive gallery of sketches, pinups, action figure art and more!

In the 1950s, Cold War paranoia outlawed the Mystery Men of the Golden Age. Stalwarts such as Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman continued to fight for truth and justice, but as the world hurtled toward an uncertain future, it would take a new breed of hero to define the American Way. DC: THE NEW FRONTIER takes readers on an epic journey from the end of the Golden Age of heroes to the beginnings of the legendary Justice League of America.

Darwyn Cooke's most ambitious project yet features the stunning color art of Dave Stewart, an introduction by DC's President and Publisher Paul Levitz, and an afterword by Cooke.
DC Universe 464pg. Color Oversized Hardcover $75.00 US

On Sale July 29, 2009

also on the New Frontier front;

the boxed set of NF action figures as designed by Darwyn get released this week. Featuring Batman, Green Lantern, Superman and Wonder Woman sporting a new head sculpt and a copy of the wonderful JLA: THE NEW FRONTIER SPECIAL #1.

Why cartoonists stop doing free sketches

For years, many cartoonists would do store appearances or conventions and spend many hours drawing for their fans. What a wonderful time that could be had by all. Years ago, I got free sketches by several top artists that now reside on my office walls, the walls of my comic store or in one of my sketchbooks. Love'em. Absolutely love them. They are not only nice drawings but memories of time spent with someone you admire and whose work you admire. I would never sell them. They were gifts, for crying out loud!

At Free Comic Book Day, Strange Adventures goes all out and I've played host to Steve McNiven, Andy Runton, J. Bone, and of course, Darwyn Cooke at these events. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like any of those cartoonists will be coming this year as doorknobs like this guy take the free sketch and try to sell it for profit. Nice. Thanks for ruining the fun, dude.

sorry to rant on so, but a few thoughtless people can spoil things for many.

a more positive note, Darwyn will be appearing at the Calgary expo April 25-26 and in case you forgot, here's an illustration he did for the event.
